The more that I am away from the Philippines, the more that I am becoming nationalistic. Or am I just being homesick...but then again no - - - you face your future with your past, as one author said, and one of the basic description about my self is that I am a Filipino... With all the bad news about our country and the negative image we have compared to other Asian countries, we often find ourselves being looked down by other nationalities - but then, hello... we should not let ourselves be in that situation - be proud being a Filipino and start building a good image for us and the future generation... During the war, Americans massacred Filipino civilians in Balangiga, Samar. On October 23, 1901, Brig. Gen. Jacob Smith ordered a battalion of 300 US marines, under the command of Maj. Littleton W. Waller, to make Samar "a howling wilderness". "I want no prisoners. I wish you to kill and burn, and the more you kill and burn the better you will please me.
