RAYA LIGHT

RAYALIGHT is one of the drag queen contestants that was eliminated for the Rupaul's Drag Contest. What an awful waste ... I really don't know how and what are the mechanics but for me she is one hell of a performer. And I am totally amused by her performances here.... I believe this is what Drag should be .... and in her words "totally stretched the bounds of drag. No offense to the fierce queens on here, but drag is not just putting on makeup and lip synching some standard song and taking tips. It can stretch all the way into performance art."
And my words are .... funtastique! superb! brilliant !!!!
I just wish I develop even half of her talents

RAYA WILL NEVER LOVE THIS WAY AGAIN....

CRACK OVER THE RAINBOW
This is Scary Raya as Crackwhore Dorothy doing Patti Labelle's "Over the Rainbow." Dorothy never made it home from Oz, that was the Hollywood ending. She ended up working the streets of the Emerald City, getting knocked up by one of the flying monkeys!! Enjoy!

STAND BY YOUR MAN AND INTRODUCING RAYLIGHT

SEND ME AN ANGEL .....

I think this is still the best of the Victorian Secrets Show... ever!!!

PAIN

What would I do to make this pain go away?
.
What would I give to get back to my old painless human self?
.
Sleep eludes me.
.
Black circles formed around my blood shut eyes.
.
I detest human food.
.
I thirst for something sweet and cold. But could not open my mouth.
.
The throbbing, nagging pain that travels through the connected nerve tissues from my gums to my eyes up to my temple is unbearable. A burning drilling sensation into my brain. No amount of human pain reliever can save me.
.
I slept, dreamed and woke up with this pain ... like an unwelcome relative that tents in the lounge room. Never intending to leave....
.
I decided to go to the dentist today and maybe get some antibiotics, and have this infected teeth pulled out quickly ... or else I'll be in pain forever !!!

VAMPIRES

I have just finished reading "The Twilight" book by Stephenie Meyer and learned more about the stories in her website. I wanted to buy the Twilight Series but they were ridiculously priced yet so I dashed to the city library but found none and waited this long as there was a long queue.
Can you believe there were around 300 people who were on the reserve list? And to meet this request, they bought additional new books. So right now I consider myself lucky to be reading a new book - saved my money and not having to end up with another book collection to be thrown and stacked in the shelves.
I could be a cult follower for all I know but I am still penny pinching when it comes to buying stuff ... like books, dvds, etc. And that's another story....
There is something about vampire romance that makes me feel crazy in love with the vampire heroes and the vampiric life altogether. So I have seen for a hundred times - The Interview with the Vampire and read all the books of Anne Rice. I also love Bram Stoker's Dracula, Underworld, From Dusk Til Dawn. The Lost Boys ... to name a few!
But Twilight and all the other books of Stephenie Meyer just topped it all up for me. For now! I am totally in love with the characters. Her writing is fabulous. I can hear the characters talking as if they are real and alive (or exist in the case of the vampires!). But learning more about Stephenie - being a mother of three and not having written or published any novels before, is really an eye opener. Where would she get all these ideas from? She said that it all started in a dream. And wrote the novel in 6 months, after that! Amazing! My fascination with vampire romance genre - started when I was young. There was this TV series about vampires which I researched was made in 1979 but was shown later on the TV maybe int the 90's. I cannot even remember the title but all I can remember is this particular scene where the Hero/villain-Vampire was carrying this almost dead girl while the Moonlight Sonata music was played on the background! It's kind of sexy, very romantic vampire genre that would have inspired all the other succeeding films ... And I would categorized this as classic! I found it and all the stories behind.... thanks to Google! THE CURSE OF DRACULA Starring: Michael Nouri, Stephen Johnson, Carol Baxter, Antoinette Stella, Mark Montgomery, Bever-Leigh Banfield and Louise SorelCount Dracula was living in present-day San Francisco and teaching a course in European History at South Bay College. One of the advantages of his teaching post was that it brought him in contact with attractive young students who could be turned into vampires. Seeking to destroy Dracula was Kurt von Helsing, grandson of Prof. von Helsing, a former nemesis of the count.

GAYEST FESTIVAL ... ???

Yesterday, the Midsummer Festival in Melbourne started with the usual Carnival at the Park and that T Dance.
It was a very hot day and we only stayed for a couple of hours - just going around with Raffy and Skippy (their first public gay activity!).
Unlike the previous years, it seems that this kind of activity (festival) has lost its energy, passion and all that jazz ... Maybe it is only me. But I found it totally boring! For the newly initiated and outed gay guys, maybe it is still very relevant and exciting! But who knows?
People are just going around as if in daze, walking around the stalls searching for anything interesting - - - maybe with their friends and pets, but that's all about it! They look like tired old gay guys, trying to be in a festive mood in the glaring sun at midday !!!
.
Gays Coming of Age?
.
But i can feel the indifference. The look of self-indulgence that has totally lost its meaning. Emptiness. As if being gay in this time and place is not news anymore! Nothing to celebrate ...
.
You can see that in the faces of these people going around and around looking for something they cannot find and understand why ? - not happy and gay :)
.
So where's the festival ???
.
Well even the gayest festival of all in Sydney, is believed to have lost it's luster!
Not even a fully beaded/sequined gay flag could bring back its glory .... And I decided not to go this year !!!
But on the upper side of the world, people are still celebrating. And in the festival city of the Philippines, the gayest of all the festivals is the Sinulog Festival (which just ended ???)
I guess, there are types of people that are born for celebrations and festivals!

DRAG SHOW DIARY- JAN 09

Venue : The Opium Den
January 14, 2009
Performance 1
Kylie Minogue's Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Asian Flavor (Black Afro) Comedy Version
Performance 2
Kylie Minogue's On a Nite Like This (Showgirl concert Version)
Inputs: Asian Flavor with twirling orange and pink fans in fuschia pink wig!
------
My first show in 2009. I thought it was a bit hard to choose a proper number. First you have to choose something that you know or could easily memorize and internalize. Second, pick something that is really strong - - - that is when played on the stage should really give that x factor impact. Third, consider tha audience (which is a bit hard to determine), and Fourth, you have to prepare your costumes and other tricks to make the number effective and memorable.
.
It is a bit of a long trip especially for a new drag queen. I had more than one month hiatus in doing the make up and I was panicking last night. I thought I forgot all the tricks!
.
People were very nice though and the other drag queens were really friendly!
.
I somehow enjoyed catching up!

TRUE BLUE BLEW BLOWS

At the Golden Globe - blue was the color of the night.
Here, by Anne Hathaway's Armani Prive, this almost velvet black blue blew all of them away.
Which just reminds me of that royal blue that was worn by Miss World 2009 - Ksenia Sukhinova.

NOT SO CREEPY CREPES !!!

I thought I have seen The Crepe Cafe somewhere in Melbourne, but I must not have really noticed. But in Brisbane, I saw these cafe everywhere and was drawn by that sweet delicious smell ... of pancakes and waffles!
You could actually see them making your order - be it crepes, waffles, pancakes or omellette.
The Oz Omellete I ordered, hmmm, yummy!
The Crêpe Café is an original, fast casual "crêperie" franchise that was created in Australia in December 2001. From humble beginnings on the Gold Coast, founders Jean-Pierre Corgnet, Norbert Baillette have grown the Group with passion and commitment and now have stores in five continents throughout the world. In January 2006, The Crêpe Café officially joined the ranks of Australia’s fastest growing franchises after being named the country’s #2 star performer in BRW’s 50 fastest growing franchises list. Today The Crêpe Café is represented throughout Australia and New Zealand, the Middle East and North Africa, and in the United States.
See more photos here - The Crepe Cafe
I definitely love the following too :
Their coffee is not bad either !

SHOP WINDOWS : RANDOM BRISBANE

During the holidays, most of the shops were closed, but this did not stop me from going around some fashion boutiques in Brisbane and just taking some photos of their window displays... hmmm some ideas, maybe ???
This shop apparently made the gown of Jennifer Hawkins (the one she used in the Miss Universe evening gown).
I like the cut and the material used in this one - for a red carpet evening !!!
Not this ... These are the costume for the latest Circus Soleil ..
I like this ... can be used in a drag number!
What do you think ???
And by the way, I learned that Brisbane has a bustling fashionista shops in Oxford street - Fortitude Valley where all the gay friendly bars are located as well. In one of the bars, I saw and talked to Leigh Buchanan - who came up the top in the Project Runway Oz. He was a little bit bitchy in real life and not really friendly ... I think, a little bit of fame got into his head! Shame!

37 DEGREES AND WHAT AM I DOING ???

Finally we are getting the heat of the sun! It is high 37 degrees today and yesterday was also withering hot !!! Would be nice to be sitting at the beach, instead of working inside the airconditioned office ... and blogging ??? :)
Surfers' Paradise ... taken last time we were there!
Surfing would be nice, if I know how!
But, I would rather go to that man-made river in Brisbane .... along their famous Southbank and just keep my feet wet and cold while reading a book .... peacefully!
I love this river ... even if it is fake!

SOWING THE SEEDS OF LOVE ...

When you grow old - hmmm older - and life's monotony starts to creep into your being, that's when you become OLD.
Last night, I wanted to watch something old and still excites me - so I went through our DVD collection.
.
Recent Brad Pitt's movie - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and the Twilight - made me picked "Interview with the Vampire" - for so the elements of aging, youth, and life itself are somehow examined in different ways.
.
Being young is a state of mind. I know of some adults in their sixties and seventies who maintained their young minds.
.
Oh, they may appear to be in their wobbly and wrinkly skin but their eyes glint with life and young spirit.
.
Still wondering.
Active.
Inquisitive.
Hopeful.
Wishful.
.
And their adventurous (maybe childish) way of looking at the world (still wonderful, mysterious and beautiful) - - - is their everflowing fountain of youth!
.
In the Interview, the vampires' bodies are eternally youthful, never growing old. But their minds and their souls become ancients, weary and old as centuries of living and roaming around the world bring its toll. They would always look young and fabulous but in their tormented minds, they project and smell of decay and death. They actually loathe living (as they are already dead!). In the particular case of Louis (Brad Pitt) and Claudia (Kirsten Dunst), they only found regret and unhappiness in being forever damned young.
.
To become a vampire is thus, not to live forever young ... !!! Thanks, but no thanks .. Edward!
.
Which brings me to that awfully bashful song Sowing the Seeds of Love ... don't know why!
.
.
And in my muddy frame of mind Betty of Ugly appeared in her braces and said "One can be young at any age!".
.
"How?", I asked.
.
She said "Maybe by having that youthful mind of a child???, and eating lots of Tortillas..."
.
Maybe keeping that mind filled with wonders and expectations ... not always happy but forever curious and adventurous!
.
That zest and love for life ... etc. etc ...
.
Ohhh to be forever young ! Maybe we ask Mel Gibson ...
.
