REMEMBERING THE FALLEN'
Today, Australia celebrated ANZAC Day. This is to commemorate wartime heroes including those who died in the Gallipoli. Personally, I was happy because it means it is a public holiday and a break during the working week is always a treat. But being a part of the celebration changed the whole meaning of this public holiday into something really important.
It's my first time to have a go and woke up early to see the parade which is just a walking distance from our place. I did not realize that there are so many Melburnians involved (as in the parade almost took the whole day to finish starting from early dawn service).
Most of the people on the parade are really old and some of them could not even walk -but they did try. For families and friends of those who died during the war, this is a very sentimental event, almost venerable. There was an air of respect, patriotism and honor, and it is good to see this in the eyes of the young people and children who wore the medals of glory for their beloved literally.
Being an australian citizen, there is so much to learn about history and heritage. I think that being in the Anzac parade reminded of this duty.

At first I was going to ask if they incorporated something with "The Sound of Music", but then I remembered that was Austria, not Austrailia. LOL...
But dude, that's cool, that you went out in support. To me, things like war and battles dont really phase me, and it's probably because I've never experienced it first hand.
But when you hear veterans tell their tales of terror and see it in movies, it becomes a little more real, you know? And it's good that you're taking those steps to learn more about your country's history.
What an event. Very stirring. Thanks for the dinner invitation!

hi dt,
you made me smile. it's definitely not the sound of music. it is remembering that really matters afterall.
