Are any of these films worth watching ??? We tend to support Filipino films, but do they make us proud or do we cringe and make a quick exit after the film has been shown, feeling like our dirtiest underwear has been shown in public! Well, well, well ...

PETALISTIC VIEW

Do you still remember Petal (Kate Blanchett) of the movie The Shipping News (2001)? The unrepentant shameless guiltless selfish whore ... whose idea of life is to have FUN, FUN, FUN, SEX, SEX and more SEX with not only ONE but with different and many men as much as possible, and switches from one rope to another like Tarzan on heat !!! The only thing really that would make her stop and did stop her is that dramatic plunge into the river with her lover ...

Honestly, I do understand Petal. There is that big bottomless hole or emptiness that needs to be filled ... and no amount of "goodness" in life can satisfy this itch. The thought that something out there, outside the confines of a boring home, is fun and you are constantly missing out on something. That life is short and therefore you have to make use of youth and time that you have by going out and meeting people.

There is Petal in most of us. And in my case from now and then, this character prevails. But hopefully we can also see beauty in being boring ... in a steadfast grounded life. I just wonder whether Petal in her last breath even thought about these. Maybe not ever !!!

On a lighter note, I just love Kate Blanchett as Petal with those piercing and probing eyes of a harlot!
